Acupuncture

During acupuncture nerve endings are stimulated and various hormones are released, e.g. endorphins and encephalins, which have a calming effect on the body and can stimulate healing. Acupuncture needles also work by releasing contracted muscles which are pressing on nerve endings and so causing pain.
There are also large nerve ganglia near the spinal cord which are thought to control some of the main body organs by activating the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. These can be needled as well as using other points. Massage of these points can also help to a lesser degree and this can be very effective from a massage chair, such as our new Shiatsu massage chair.

Dr Alexander has been practicing acupuncture for 25 years, initially training in Sri Lanka and China gaining the WHO Diploma in Acupuncture. She works part time in the Rheumatology department for Barnet Trust and has published articles on her work.

Fine needles are inserted using a combined traditional / western approach followed by electro-acupuncture and manipulation if necessary. Massage is available on site which can complement the acupuncture.

We also have a powerful new laser machine for laser acupuncture which is totally painless, penetrates to a depth of 2 inches and is very good at treating frozen shoulder (this has been proven in a clinical trial at Manchester University). It is also useful for Achilles tendonitis and any other tendon or muscle problem. Treatments are part of a research project so the charge is only £20.

We have just purchased a Shiatsu massage chair from Japan which massages the pressure points, treating different area of the body. The treatment is similar to "Tui Na" as practised in China after acupuncture, or it can be used alone.

Milne Feild?
Milne Feild Surgery? Don't you mean Milne Field?

No! Strange as it may seem, the "correct" spelling for the road that we take our name from is Milne Feild. We haven't been able to discover why it is spelt this way, the answer is probably lost in the mists of time and Olde English, but "E before I" it definitely is!
