Acupuncture
We use a combination of traditional and western approaches, in which fine needles are inserted into specific points of the body. This is followed by electro-acupuncture and manipulation if necessary.
We are also able to provide massage to complement the acupuncture.
We also have a powerful new laser acupuncture machine which is totally painless, penetrates to a depth of 2 inches and is very good at treating problems like frozen shoulder. It is also useful for Achilles tendonitis and any other tendon or muscle problems.
Holistic Medicine
Holistic medicine means consideration of the complete person, physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually, in the management and prevention of disease. It is underpinned by the concept that there is a link between our physical health and our more general 'well-being'. In an holistic approach to medicine, there is the belief that our well-being relies not just on what is going on in our body physically in terms of illness or disease, but also on the close inter-relation of this with our psychological, emotional, social, spiritual and environmental state. These different states can be equally important. They should be managed together so that a person is treated as a whole.
Rheumatology
Rheumatology is a specialty devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of conditions and diseases affecting the joints, muscles, and bones. Dr Alexander has a special interest in rheumatology dating back to before her GP training.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a condition that affects the bones, causing them to become weak and fragile and more likely to break (fracture). These fractures most commonly occur in the spine, wrist and hips but can affect other bones such as the arm or pelvis. The death rate from fracture of the hip is approaching 25%.
Osteoporosis affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 12 men over 50. Approximately 3 million people in the UK are thought to have osteoporosis, and there are over 230,000 fractures every year as a result. Although commonly associated with post-menopausal women, osteoporosis can also affect men, younger women and children.
Chinese Slimming Clinic
We combine acupuncture, body fat measurements, dietary advice and special chinese green tea to help you lose weight more effectively and safely.
Reflexology and Massage
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive treatment which can help to promote and maintain a feeling of well being and relaxation, both for the mind and the body. It is based on the principle that there is a map of the body on the feet. Gentle pressure is applied to the reflex points on the feet, releasing energy blockages in the body and stimulating its own healing processes to restore the natural balance.
